Local resident Wanda Vernell Norbrey has been identified by investigators as the person who was killed over the weekend after being struck by an SUV in the middle of the road.

According to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office, at around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, deputies were called to the area of Tidewater Trail and Glendas Way, when a 2018 GMC SUV heading north struck Norbrey as she was crossing.

She was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.

Now, investigators are attempting to determine whether or not the crosswalk sign was blinking at the time she was hit by the truck.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.
